Our partnership with CHU Sainte-Justine
MicroHabitat partners with CHU Sainte-Justine, Montreal's university hospital for mothers and children, to bring urban farming into a healthcare setting. The hospital is in our headquarters city. The work sits alongside the rest of our Montreal farm network — rooftops and terraces that grow food for the people who use the building.
The aim is practical: a place where staff, families and visitors can see plants growing, and where harvest can go to the people on site rather than arriving from a warehouse. We do not publish a harvest weight or a patient-outcome claim for this hospital. Those figures are not in the public record we can stand behind.
Why a farm belongs next to care
Hospitals already spend on air, light and outdoor space because those things change how a building feels to the people inside it. An on-site farm adds something a planter box does not: a weekly rhythm of planting and picking, and food that was grown a few metres from the kitchen or the staff room.
That is the same model we run on commercial roofs and schoolyards. The crop list and the visit schedule change with the site. The principle does not: someone from MicroHabitat farms it, and the building keeps the food.
Montreal, food and the people who need it
Sainte-Justine is one hospital partnership in a city where we also grow for community organisations. Read how rooftop harvest reaches people who need it in urban solidarity farms and in our work with Accueil Bonneau. The wider programme is on community engagement.
For the certifications and workplace case that often sit next to a hospital or campus project, start with the urban farming guide or commercial real estate.
Talk to us about a healthcare site
If you run a hospital, clinic or campus and want an urban farm on the roof or terrace, contact MicroHabitat or book a demo. We will tell you what the site can grow. We will not invent a number we cannot file.
